pioneer shallow problem - need help

Yes and yes. You have to break in a sub. Can't remember how long but for some reason I have 40 hours in my head. bass boost bad!!!! If you are having to crank the gains and boost... look at upgrading to more power. otherwise set your gains to the equipment you have and settle for it.

Basically here is what happens... if you have ever seen the working of a transformer and seen the wire wraped around the core, thats basically what you have in your speaker. there is a coating over this wire typically a varnish. when this coil heats up to the point of melting the varnish it shorts out on itself. So the best way to avoid it is to match the sub and amp and have a clean signal as well as appropriate sized wiring. If you only have a 150 watt amp and you are cranking everything you obviously do not find it loud enough. By doing this you a distorting the signal causing the coils to heat up and as Rob said to much heat and the coils will melt.... So you need to keep the signal as clean as possible and the gains set appropriately.

... are you getting a more powerful sub or are you getting the same sub?
thesalo if you are getting the same sub you should expect the same problem if you play them the way you currently do!
BTW whenever a fuse blows that IS a BIG deal.
BTW whenever you smell that smell from a sub it is generally the end of the game for that sub

i woud get a more powerfull one but the thing is i have so fit it in a truck which doesnt give me alot of options for subs i think ill get the same one but i will lower the boost i also think that it has something to do with the pressure inside the cabin because if i want good bass i have to open the windows so there is more air for the sub to move around when i just play it with the windows up the sub doesnt play as loud on the same volume

Is the box ported or sealed? I had the same sub in a 98 f150 and ended up covering the port cause it sounded so much better. Do you know the volume of the box? It could also be a box issue for you not getting what you expect. Oh and a piece of advise??? Get the extended warranty I mean assuming you are buying it at FS or BB.

I will throw you a deal on the new sub if that helps you out. Expect to have the same problems IF you leave the amp configured the same way. Ideally if you want it louder, you need to do the following.
1) more clean power.
2) double up on the subs.
3) change the type of box.
Too much power again will melt the coils, so care needs to be taken. Too much power though allows the gain to be turned down far lower, that is a good thing. Doubling up on the subs would be ideal if it is in your budget and space constraints.
