Politics 1, shows 0

1) Your title suggested it was a game of politics -- much like a newspaper headline that grabs attention without giving information.
2) I was in full support of them having their own show (right on. As you know, very few businesses and corporations are willing to even pay a nominal amount to put on shows. However, how can you expect Wayne Harris to sanction a show on his site and grant points when it's held at a shop without a membership.
3) You are correct I was unaware of what you did in the past, I was wrong to make that comment. Just for the record I used to put on 2-4 shows a year at my shop when I was in retail. In addition, it's like we discussed before -- everyone used to bitch about the house of boom shows and now they cry when the shows are gone.
-- It was my mistake to have assumed that your comments were directed at me, so I appologise.

Well, if I may add my 2cents worth, although I had one fairly successful Sound-Off, it was despite the fact that a part of the regulation in my agreement was broken by the sponsor, in that case being IASCA.
I was assured that "no other event will be allowed on the same date as mine, within a radius of 100 miles". In my case I was located 115kms (not miles) away from an event that was allowed after I paid my fees etc.., I lost out of many competitors who opted for a possible prize of $1000. mainly because no one looked at a map at IASCA headquarters.
So there are growing pains with any organization in this capitalistic free enterprising and democratic society.., that's why I say bring back the barter system and anarchy!!

It's funny, I often watch posts like a fly on the wall...As many of you know I ran IASCA last year, and USACi this year. I will have had a total of 32 shows over two years. I never ran these shows to make money or to promote myself as a competitor. I ran the events because I believe in our industry. I still remember when it was "fun". I still enjoy having competitors over to my shop, have some beer, tinker on cars. Tell the wife "I'll be home in 15 minutes"...
Holding shows should promote the industry and be fun. Defro held an awesome show, it might not of been sancutioned by anyone, but he sold the idea of "fun". The WCES guys are trying to get a car club atmosphere going in the SPL circles in Vancouver. I know that IASCA would never, let them hold an event. DB Drag, well we know what happened. USACi will probably get mad at me for helping the guys...but these guys are trying to get things going. The comment "I'll get an IASCA membership..." is kind of uncalled for. At least these guys are trying. Hell, if you want to run soundoffs every Sunday, lets talk! I know everyone has rules, but sometimes you have to take a chance. DWVW, held a soundoff last year, it might have not been as sucessful as he wanted. But I helped him out, and got a friend. It sounds kind of gay, but we are all trying to promote the industry and make money....A fly on the wall.

You know what bugs me about this thread? I hope I am misreading the posts, but it seems like some people feel like the issue over making the WCES show a sanctioned event had to do with me "wanting a cut".
Anyone who thinks this is just plain dumb -- the licensing fee gets paid to DB Dragracing online and simply goes to making the store a retail member so it can hold events.
I can't think of a single sanctioning body that would sanction an event for a promoter who was not a "member".
There is a vast difference between "putting on a couple of fun shows" (Right on) and putting on a sanctioned event and trying to duck out a nominal fee.

the only thing that i can add is that db drag did not let west coast extreme spl have a membership. Performances doors opened for about 2 seconds to get some extention cords. we use the open bay from 151 pemberton. which has its own bathroom , which has its own phone number, and which is subdivided with a deli. paul the owner at performance did not have his store open and did not have his store available to us. he lent us the parking lot which is part of 151 pemberton(and location curently not leased or rented to any one) so techinically we did not use a store front. Paul allowed us to use that space only case it had power and washroms. paul had to get a membership only cause the space next to his was used. if a db drag happens thru jow blows shop and they hold it at mc donalds parkling lot, does mc donalds need to get a retail membership, due to the fact that they are a store front? we got red tape from all sides on this. we got the membership for a company that had nothing to do with this.
dukk
the show happened very quickly only cause the bbq was gonna happen. it happened very quickly, the membership was purchased on friday and the show happened on sun.
performance lent us the membership and we held it at the shop space next door.
now can some answer me this, can i hold a show in the parking lot at mc donalds, walmart, kal tire, bear creek park, cultus lake, indian reserve or any other place that i choose to? cause they are in the works and i need red tape to come up now and not later. The reason i post this here is to get input from industry folk that know the answer to this.
Please and Thank you
Patrick

The actual location doesn't matter, as long as someone with a memebership is hosting it.

^ And why not? dBDrag sells memberships to stores - not a bunch of guys or an individual.
From what I gather the store you were trying to tag the santioning to was from nowhere near the Fraser Valley, let alone the North Shore. Plus, I don't care if they were open or not - anyone seeing anything going on in that parking lot would tie the "show" to that shop. common sense.
Finally, I still have to raise the bull**** card about this sounding like essentially a gathering of the WCESPL club that got themselves a sanctioned show.
As mentioned - kudos for trying to promote the hobby but that there was totally unfair to any non-club competitors in the area If I am getting this wrong and it was an advertised show then fine - but it tdoes not sound like it.
Oh yeah - Unruh's in Chilliwack used to host the "Quake at the Lake" at Cultas every summer. Sanctioning was never a problem as the STORE held a membership and it was reasonably within their trading area.
