Potential System Recommendations
Potential System Recommendations
Hi everyone. I'm considering a system for my 2009 Double Cab Tacoma and I'm at a bit of a loss as to what to do. I don't want a system that you can hear a block away and I don't really care about high SPL's. What I do want is a system with great SQ that will handle all sorts of music well. This will be a purely music system using CD and iPod.
I also don't want to do a whole pile of cutting to my truck and I understand that there isn't a ton of room for sub boxes behind the rear seats of the Tacoma. I wouldn't have a problem removing the plastic storage trays behind the back seats, but other than that, my truck has to retain the functionality it currently has in its stock form.
I'd be looking to upgrade the head unit and front speakers for sure (and I think I can figure out which way to go with that), but my real dilema comes when considering what I should do for subs. Here are some of the options I've been considering:
1) Going with one 8 inch (perhaps a Focal if it would fit)
2) Going with a larger shallow mount sub (like the JL 13TW5)
3) Going with multiple small subs (JL 6W3v3's)
I'm sort of intrigued by the option of the 6.5 inch subs, but I'm not sure how they would sound in this particular application. My hunch is that they would be very clean and accurate, but obviously wouldn't provide as much output as one larger driver. I'm also on a bit of a budget so if a setup something like that would require less power to drive, that's a plus.
Anyone have any thoughts on these options for a Double Cab Tacoma? I wouldn't think that I'd need anything crazy to work well in that cabin space, especially given that I'm not looking for a ground pounding system. I certainly want some punch and good dynamics though.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions that you may have and feel free to throw any other considerations my way!

Completed a system in a similar Tacoma last year for a pro beach volleyball player. I have some great suggestions for you on a system. He was a little heavy on the bass side of things with the removal of the back seat but the rest of the system is what you need to look at first and foremost.
It is going to be all about the space that you have to mount the subs in, the depth available and the volume of air for the box. Hit me up on msn if you like tonight. I have this truck back in my store on Wednesday to put it back to stock for the customer.
