Problem With Sub
#1
Friend bought a used 12" sub, first thing we noticed after installing it was a rattle coming off the cone. We pulled the sub out of the box to check the tinsel leads, but it seemed like it was coming from under the dustcap.
Some songs rattle at low volumes and when turned up it isn't even bass, the rattling is louder then the music. While other songs can be played a full volume without noticible rattle. I think it is dependent on the frequency of the bass.
Does anyone know what is wrong? or if it is possible to fix it without a recone?

Depending on what kind of glue the dust cap is held down with it may or may not be easy to remove without damaging the cone... if its just a paperweight now, you don't really have much to loose....
I might try calling the company to see if they offer repair (they probably don't though) Otherwise a recone would be out of the question unless the old cone/surround was reused....
If all else fails plug it into a wall socket and make a video....
