hi. i read in this guide on box building that a QTS ratin under 4 is for a ported box, and over 5 is sealed. is this primarily correct? coz my pioneer premier sub is rated at .31 QTS and pioneer recommneds sealed ???

Used to be more relevant than today. Today there are many 0.50+ woofers that are well suited for vented boxes.

A better indicator is the Efficiency Bandwidth Product but you need Qes (and Fs) for it.
