Question about previously repaired older amps

Are older superior quality amps which have been previously repaired still worth the investment? I'm talking about older RF's and PPI's people put a lot of stock into. What if they've already been repaired? Are they still worth buying? What's more concerning? The quality of the replacement parts or the workmanship of the individual doing the repair?

Also, can any amp that has been repaired work as good as new?

So they can potentially work as good as new? Some people seem to think a repaired amp is never the same. Does that really hold true?

Sometimes updated/better electronic componets can be used as a replacement for the failed part.
If the seller will offer a warranty (not just for the repair, but he whole unit), I wouldn't be too concerned.
