You can control the volume of the PXA from a Ai-Net HU and you do NOT need to hook up the Toslink or RCA's to get a signal from the head unit to the PXA, you can get it there w/Ai-Net only...I know because I've tried it! BTW, Ai-net sounds better than RCA, but obviously not as good as Toslink.
I also thought the PXA-H700 would be a good to use with the S624, so I got one just for this purpose. Both the changer and deck get hooked up to Ai-Net terminals on the PXA and volume can still be controlled by the head unit even though the changer is providing a Toslink in.
Scroll to the bottom of this page http://www.sounddomain.com/memberpage/392547/2 and you will see a pic of the connections available on the PXA-H700. 3-Toslinks, 2-Ai-Nets (Headunit & Changer), and one set of RCA's, and a single Navigation in-put.

Thanks Adam!
As far as the sound of the PXA, truthfully I haven't done much critical listening as work has been so busy I haven't made much progress on the system in the last 3 weeks.
As soon as I have things up & running a little better, I'll provide a critique.
I did try the different inputs and there is a noticeable change between the Ai-Net and RCA inputs. The Toslink input sounds fantastic, but again I haven't had a chance to evaluate it in depth to see if it adds/subtracts anything as you did on the Audio Control piece...but I am very curious to find out.

islandphile...thanks for great info...I think I am going to go the route of the cheap deck to use as a tuner and volume control and use an S624 changer (using the digital output) exclusively as my CD source.
thanks to all...
Lawrence.

Does this mean, I can connect :
3 TOSLINK sources
1 RCA analog source
2 RCA analog sources (thru 2 Ai-net converters)
So, I can use the digital out (as long as its TOSLINK) of a non-alpine deck for CD and use the RCA output of the non-alpine deck for RADIO & AUXs.
Thanks
