The boxes I mention "appeared" to merely be largish vented boxes with oversize slot ports. They were put together with rabbets and dowels in lieu of screws/nails. Of course the company and it's followers swore up and down that there was some funky resonance/alignment thing going on and it was no ordinary vented box - much like the Snailshell...
Lol, You SPL guys and your funky boxes.
I've never even heard of a snail shell box.
What ever happened to a REAL big box, 40 amps and a bunch of 15's...now with the box designs you guys have, your hitting 150 with a 10. WTF?

i built a horn box,but it tuned too high.
they are quite difficult to build properly.
i have a speadsheet of 100 measurements to be made for every cm of length.
it was actually a tectrix design,but it also takes 6-8 cubic ft of air to make it work with my car.
the folded horn i built wound up peaking way over 100hz.
a horn can be very efficient but WILL use an enormous amount of room.
for a given space, a conventional ported box will be louder,and way easier to make correctly.
there is so many ways to make a terrible sounding horn.(been there , done that
)
the single driver webpage is great,a halfsack,couple sheets of mdf,and a table saw,can keep you entertained for days
good luck to any that dare try a tectrix or exponential design. May the Schwartz be with You

It just also happens to be very efficient for a SQ box.
(this is all stuff that I've heard.. never seen one of these boxes before)
^ Exactamundo. All they have is the hype they pitch on their videos. If it's so incredible for a pair of 6.5s, why don't they go ***** out and do a pair of 15s or something and rock everybody? Because the design ain't all that
i reasearched horns when building our box. all ifound is that there are a millions different tyopes and that they are all custom jobs that take a long time to build. we based our box on a folded horn. a horn guy wuill laugh at our box, a vented guy would laugh at our port. either way i designed it to do a specofic job and it does it for us. it hits a pretty ok number, but if you ask people that hear music thru our box , they would say it sounds pretty loud all around. no its not perfect and i didnt say it was. but we looked into the snail shell and the wicked one, klipsche, and every other horn out there, i even emailed a few diy and got some insight into why and how come, and why not. I built it with a horn in mind and it pounds great, at least i think so. i wil tell you this the snail shell, would have been our second choice, and if you ask defro, we are planning on building a big *** horn this year. i mean big ***. i can keep you posted if you like. i was hoping to start a "camp horn" jus need to find me a vehicle (any oner wanna donate their vehicle to camp horn?)
