Radio Sensitivity

Radio Sensitivity
A fairly knowledgeable install tech has indicated to me in my search of receivers with sensitive tuners that current decks would be less sensitive than a factory stock radio. His rationale for this is that sat radio is moreso of the concern as opposed to conventional AM/FM. Disheartening to hear that as I'm shopping for a unit with good sensitivity for a rural location as well as an ability to hook up my iAudio player. He did, however, indicate that head units from the past 5 - 10 years probably have better receiver specs than current units.
How does that sit with people's opinions? Any particular models that some would suggest do indeed have very good tuners?
If this sound somewhat newb, indeed it is. Just starting to explore options.
thanks

Nobody takes AM or FM radio seriously anymore they are more concerned with ipod operability, mp3, navigation, CDR capabilities etc.
But I think I agree with the conclusion that stock HU's tend to do a better job of pulling in weak radio stations most of the time. The specs on stock radios are often a mystery so a head to head comparison spec wise is difficult

I tried hooking up a FM transmitter to my Pioneer deck and it just doesnt work to well. The quality is not good. My girlfriend hooked it up to her stock deck and it works fine. Not CD quality but there is hardly any static at all. Just a little comparision for you.
