Seeking Advice for 6.5" components.
Hey guys,
My wife recently blew her passenger-side door speaker in her '08 Accent. The speakers are a set of 6.5" MB Quart Premiums (LINK) (purchased from MR2NR) a few years ago. Without taking the door panel off, it sounds like the cone is rubbing against the center pole. An internet search made mention of other people experiencing this problem with the same speakers as well. This is why I'd like to get a set of speakers where the woofer is a solid cone.
Now, I have two options. I could buy a new set of components, or simply buy a new set of full range speakers and leave the MBQ tweeters and crossovers in place...
Where things get a little tricky is that I can not find a full range woofer that isn't a two-way driver with the tweeter mounted in the middle of the damn thing. I understand that the term "full range" stems from the fact that the two speakers are working to make a full frequency range of sound.
But I'm still holding out that someone makes a decent full range woofer (sans tweeter). Do I have an option here, or am I stuck replacing the whole set?
I could always just use the woofers, and try to sell the tweeters and cross-overs from that set...
My limit is $300CDN. And the amp's output is 85W into 4 ohm.
I came across this set, though not familiar with the brand.

Try Solen in Montreal. South of the border there is also Madisound or Parts Express. They all sell individual woofers in various sizes and your budget should get you a pretty good pair.

I went ahead and ordered the Earthquake set.
There's chance this was a bone-head decision, but I'll find out when I get the speakers installed sometime next week.
If they're garbage I'll put them in my car, and perhaps consider the JL's to go in my wife's car.
Thanks for the suggestion PeelAudio.
