On setting the EQ through a deck
#1
I've done a search through the forum and found nothing so I'll ask my question:
My Deck is a Kenwood and it has equalizer manipulations where the sound can be boosted or lowered at three specific frequencies. I was told very early on in my car audio experience that the eq in a deck should be left flat to save the speakers. I guess the idea is that sound comming from the cd has already been mastered and futher tuning will just distort the sound.
Now my question is, especially since I have these eq settings on my deck, should I manipulate my eq or just leave it flat?
With so many equalizers on the market there must be some sort of outlet for eq usage...

EQ's are there for a reason...to be used. It is true that cd's are recorded so they sound the best....on a studio grade sound system. Now your sound system is obviously gonna be different so the eq allows you to boost the frequencies that your system doesn't reproduce as loud as the studio and cut the frequencies your system plays too loud. The more you cut or boost a frequency the more you will distort it but typical sound systems only need a little help here and there so your not gonna butcher anything. The amount of distortion you might create is gonna be in the 0.x% range. Tweak that sucker all you want after all it's a toy isn't it...PLAY WITH IT!!!!
