Speakers alright after smelling burnt?
Is it possible for speakers to emit a burning voice coil smell after being turned up yet still remain undamaged?
I got a new speaker amp today and decided to see how loud it would go... got it up to a certain level and my speakers definitely overheated, but as soon as I smelled it I turned the volume down. Might this have just been a mild overheat? Or is damage guaranteed to the voice coils after getting that hot?

Not necessarily. We used to have a sub in the store we routinely beat the hell out of - made it stink all the time, and it survived no problem. Now your speakers are for sure much more delicate but if they still play then it sounds like you got lucky.

Thanks Dukk, that's what I figured but I felt like I needed a second opinion in order to maintain my piece of mind... haha
I'm thinking they should be alright because I caught it right away... I'll probably turn the gains down a touch in order to prevent this from happening again.
