Well sony decks dont put out the best sound.

Add a small good quality amp for some cleaner sound. Also make sure no bass or going to these speakers or they will sound like ****.

 

^^^I don't think the cd player is the issue in
this case. It's all about getting them sealed
properly and giving them a good baffle as stated
earlier by others.
On a side note to T.dot_230, have you tried all
of the Sony cd players, old and new? I doubt it.
Had some really nice hu's in terms of sound
back in the day.
