I have never done it, but i have seen this done with great results using a bowl, get a steel bowl the right size for your flare, use a heat gun till the flare forms around the bowl and its done

I used to make my own Aeroport flares back when everyone was
bandpass crazy

you need a steel jig about 12" long to slide the PVC over
that flares out with a flat flange ring at the bottom of the flare
the length of the jig holds the PVC perfectly strait and the flare
comes out even

you dip the end of the PVC in hot oil...slide it down the jig
and a steel ring comes down over that and clamps down
making a flat mounting flange on the end of the flare...

it only works with PVC and not ABS..takes a bit of practice
