sub bottoming out!

Yes it is done with a change of port dimensions, however, to change the tuning to 32 hz is not going to gain you that much at all. A noticeable change in depth and output at those frequencies would come from going a full octave lower, meaning 19hz, well into the subharmonics that for most systems is a total waste of time. I would be tempted to leave well enough alone and concentrate on a good cdplayer with a dedicated sub level control.
A good basic SSF can be found in the form of Harrison Laboratories F-mods if you want to be safe. They are an active crossover simulator that does a failry good job for what they are designed for. IIRC they do have a subsonic version. It is as simple as unplugging the rca's and plugging the adaptor into the end and connecting back to the amp again, done and done.
You have enough power, but you are probably clipping all over the map and the amp has totally lost control of the motion of the driver.

I agree that a Subsonic is probably not really needed but if you want a Harrison F-Mod, here is some information: http://www.hlabs.com/products/crossover/
IMO it was a combination of gain too high and bass boost

Fmods for the cheapest solution aside from free which is turn the gain and boost down. If the box is not producing output below "X" frequency, why amplify it? This is what a fmod basically does, it is a high pass crossover centered in the subharmonic region, usually below 30 hz.

F-Mod Subsonic filters are awesome....sold a pile of em in the 90's and never had warranty issues with ported boxes....they do cause a bit of gain loss tho (maybe 2 or 3 DB)but the bass it much more controled.
Don't use em much any more, since all the amps I use have built in filters , with a steeper slope.
