Sub Issue!!! help me
Ok well i know very little when it comes to car audio, and the new sub/amp setup is giving me issues.
I just bought a kicker zx 300.1 amp and a 8" shallow pioneer premier sub. I wired everything up according the the instrucitons, then when i started to to run power to the sub i could never "really" notice it. then today i noticed that the protection led would blink on and off every few seconds. So i went back to my truck to see what the issue was and i turned on the truck, turned the volume to 0, saw that the amp protection light was blinking again. So i look at the sub itself and noticed that it was slowing going up with good extension, then dropping back down continually. and it smelt somewhat like burning plastic.
I immediatly turned off my truck.
now i don't know if my sub is done, or if my amp is done, or really what the problem is at all.
Help me please!!! what do i do now?
Thanks

They are single voice coil. Disconnect your sub and turn the amp back on. Is the amp still in protect mode? If not get a hold of an ohm meter and ohm out the sub. You should have 4 ohm resistance. That smell??? Is never good.....

Sub going in and out in a steady fashion = amplifier has a bad ground or the amp is toast. Smells from the sub = sub is being damaged. If this is a bad amp then take the both back to where you purchased from and get them replaced. If it was install related, then the amp may be covered under warranty but the sub may not (depends on who installed it).

so what would be my next step i should take?
I will double check the ground tommorow,
but is my sub shot, or is it still possible that it is totally fine?
How do i tell if it is my amp that is bad, and what would cause it to go bad?
Should i just hand it over to a car audio shop?

ok so i unhooked the sub, shortened the ground and grounded it SUPER good. and then i turned on the truck and it still went into the protection mode.
Soo i am assuming it has something to do with the amp being faulty.
