subs 1000w+ under 400$

hello, i was recently in the city ( edmonton) and i came accros a alpine type x 10'' sub for 350$. it was a display modle, never used. would this be a good deal? i have read lots of good and bad reviews. Im will be going back to the city in a few days to do more looking around, im looking for a sub that will go with my ultimate t3 1000d. so it would have to be a bit more then around 1000 watts rms.
In my car at the momment i have a clif designs cd150c 15'' sub and i dont think it is all that great, but i want some thing that is going to pound more then it for sure. i have a sheet of 3\4 mdf and im going to build a box for for this new sub. i want to go ported and tune it rather low.

my 18th birthday is comeing up so i will have a bit more money, but i really dont want to spend it all on htis one thing so im thinking not more then around 400$. i need money left over for going to the bars, ****, fireworks and lottery tickets....

I'd say typeX at that price is a pretty good deal. This is what it goes about for used, more or less.
I'm not really sure if it the 10 will pound more than a 15. It will surely be a nice sq setup.

I agree with df. I have a feeling that the 10 inch will not pound louder than the 15, then again I am not familiar with either of these woofers.

IMO do what I did...buy one good quality sub...then down the road when you have some more cash to spare buy the matching sub...your ears and chest will thank you...I bought a JL sub back a few years ago and have been driving around with 1 only until recently...having 1 sub till I had enough money for another was well worth the wait instead of buying 2 cheaper quality subs...now with 2 subs my system pounds...patience is well worth the wait.

Looks like you are on the wrong side of the border by the looks of your location, add to that you more than likely have no real idea as to pricing in Canada. Based on that, your assumptions are totally out in left field I hate to say.

Ahahaha, I totally forgot about that one. I didn't mention anything about the price but I thought that $350 seemed like a shizzle load for a 10" alpine type x.

Ya on fleabay you could get a 12" type X shipped to you with customs under $300. But then you are looking at no warrenty. Check out Fi Audio, they are pretty new to the scene but I have heard nothing but great reviews. The people who run it are the same people who did RE before they sold it off. They custom build each subwoofer with a variety of options. You could get a Q series 15 shipped to you for probably just over $300, this will easily handle 1000W with 27mm of Xmax, pretty nice for the price.

first of all, alpine doesn't make a 15" X, second of all, even if you can get one used for 300 CND, I'd still get the floor model being as it's never been hooked up, you are sure you're not getting something someone else beat the hell out of before you got it. especially for an extra 50 bucks. the eBay thing is up to you, but like mentioned you'll get crap service, and no warante...

that being said, from my experience, the X needs power. 800W is bare minimum IMO and it's barely working with that, so 1kw might not be enough to get what you want out of it. it will take a lot more. for 3-400 I'd look into something a little more efficient.

regards, Mark

For a little bit more, a DD3500 series driver can be had as well. That will definitely be the road to getting loud with that kind of power.
