Excellent feed back, thank you all.

Yuli,
I have never heard about the impedance going up after the sub starts up. That is great info I will definitely be looking at a larger amp now. Thanks!

If you are going hardcore SPL and competing then Yuli is going to be a great source for a amp to match. If this is for average everyday I want to listen to my music and loud, then the MTX that was recommended or a large DD amp will be more than adequate.

JBL A3000GTi is the cleanest amp of all those listed, but be ready to feed it stupid amounts of current, so bigger alt, and at least one other battery in the trunk like a Kinetik 2400 or Batcap 3000 or 8400 or something like that, or bigger. However, if it's the db's you're after, Yuli knows best.

Of the your choices, the 3000GTI, or even the 6000GTI but these amplifiers are very costly, you are better off with an amp from digital designs, american bass or sundown audio, these are more cost friendly. Have you lloked into maxxsonics? (crunch, hifonics, autotek)

I'll see what kind of price I can get the A6000GTi for. I've really liked JBL in past experiences, plus this amp is a 2 channel designed for full range so I shouldn't be disappointed with the sound quality. It may be overkill, but in the long run it'll run almost anything I'll ever want to throw at it. I won't be running it at max so it'll last and I won't want an upgrade anytime soon.

I need to upgrade my alternator but already have all the wiring and batteries I need. Just have to save some $$$ now

Thanks all for the input. If the A6000GTi falls through I'll start looking at some of the other options given here.

what vehicles is this going in?
I'm not sure if you mentioned it.. I didnt see it..
I ask because fitting the JBL 6K into just about anything is going to
be a challenge in itself..

but like Yuli mentioned, impedance rise is never taken into consideration so people are always assuming they're getting the max power out of their system when daily listening.
but thats never the case.. not unless they drop their amplifiers down below their reccomended impedance so that when impedance rise occurs it falls within their ideal impedance.. but try doing that for daily use and you'll need to have a fire extinguisher handy..lol

good luck in your search..
curious to know as well what subs or set up are you going to have to pair up with the amplifier.. also what are you going to have battery wise?

Also to remember like sasha and others said, the GTI6k will pull close to 800 amps of power, and as for cost you are lokking at 4500 us new.

S10 extended cab.
Odyssey batteries: PC1500 & PC2150
1 Pioneer TS-W5102SPL

For the record, yes the A6000GTi will be overkill, but the idea is to buy one amp instead of many over the course of time (as I usually do). Besides, I want to see just how far I can push one of these 12s.

Probably can't afford the amp until my tax return or at least my x-mas bonus. (sorry to all those trying to sell their old amps to me now, didn't mean to get anyone's hopes up)
