SWX-1043D(alpines) Vs S10L7(kickers)

I have narrowed down my sub choices for my current build. Price was a factor in these 2 being the final 2 choices.

The kickers i have heard, i had a friend with 2 10" L5s and they sounded really good to me. The kickers also have a leg up at this point because the box for them is so universal (this stereo will probably be with me for 3 or 4 cars) and so cheap. The fact that i would probably use 1 $300 zx750.1 per sub is incentive over the massive priced amps i would need for the Alpines. I can get the 2 L7s for $350, the box for $70 CAD and the amps for $600. So $1020 total.

The alpine type-x 10" caught my eye because i can get 2 of them right now brand new for $500. I have never heard these before and have never met anyone who has.The amp i was looking at to match each of these subs with (1 amp per sub just lik ethe kickers) is the ALPINE PDX1.1000. It will cost me $600 per amp though. These alpines do somewhat have a little bonus in that with them my entire system would be alpine, that doesn't mean that much to me though. For me to justify the Extra $150 for them and extra $600 worth of amp needed these subs would have to sound like recording studio level quality. Total Cost $1700 + ???? for box.

I will be pounding these with the aid of some Alpine Type-R 5.25 fronts with either an Alpine PDX-4.100 or a V-Power MPR-F600. I will get the PDX if a deal pops up, otherwise it will be the V. Rear stage is undecided but i am going with the 4 channel amp to keep an option open.

Please leave opinions and thoughts.

Shopping in the US? Have you factored in all the $ conversion and fees as well? Is warranty something important for you? Based on what I am reading from your posts, you are on a mission to get loud, correct?

Ya all my prices i listed are in CAD. The kickers come with standard 1 year warranty from kicker, the site i found them on for $350 a set is an authorized dealer. The alpine most likely just come with the manufactures warranty as well, but i have to look into that with them.

I am trying to go for sound quality over loudness. I want my bass to be loud, but it has to be clear and clean. Most of the bass in my music comes from drums or bass guitars. Some bands i can see my self listening to at full volume are Metallic, Sublime, System of a Down, Rage against the Machine, Offspring, Sheryl Crow (laugh if you want), Bad Reilgion, ect.

I've heard two 12" type-x's on 2400W in a cavalier, ported around 40hz, it was very loud, also two type-x 10's sealed on 2000W, it was very loud and sounded great, also a single ported x-12 on 1000W, it was crap lol. If you listen to something with better SQ than an L5, you probably won't want the L5 anymore, I havn't heard them. The SQ between my 05 xxx and apx was huge, one sounds warm and punchy and the other sounds like it would complain if it had a mouth. Get the sub that will suit your musical or SPL plans. You might get louder with the L5s if they've got the sensitivity. Ebay might sell those cheaper, bnib.

I used to have 2 Alpine Type X 10s running off of a single PDX 1.1000 and it sounded very tight with alot of impact. Of course only running half of the RMS rating barely moved them at all.

See i heard that you can damage your speakers by not running enough power to them. That's why i thought i would have to get 2 1000w amps for the pair of these.

I am about 90% sure i am going to go with the 10" L7s. I may just buy one for now and a cheap single box for it and get the 2nd sub and quality box after everything else is done.

Underpowered + playing at ported frequency too long = burnt coil .... at least it did for me. After switching to sealed I had way more excursion from the sub. Never any problems with underpowered sealed.

Well i ordered a sub. Before i went through with checking the Kicker 10" L7 out i decided to deal hunt a bit more to make sure i was getting it as cheap as possible. On my hunt i came across a MB Quart PWH304 for $139.99 USD. With shipping and conversion it came out to $204.50 Canadian. I am keeping my fingers crossed that they are still on slae in 2 weeks from now (payday) so i can order a second.

I know MB Quart is not for everyone, but i have heard their lower end subs and i loved them. The PWH304 and PWH302 (4 ohm and 2 ohm) are their high end so this should be nice for me.
