system for convertible

I'm looking to upgrade the stock sound in my 1990 Miata. I'm mostly interested in having decent sound quality over any thing else and don't want to invest a ton of cash into it. I will be running a hard top for most of the time except when it's nice enough to drive top down. I also have a windscreen for the car, but I'm not sure how it will fit with my roll bar at this point (car is still in storage )

I do not plan to have a sub anywhere in the car, so the 5.25 speakers must be able to do their share bass wise, perhaps this could be asking alot. I will have to mount the tweeters in the door panels and cut holes for them since my model year did not come with that, just 5.25's in the doors. It may be possible to install 6.5" speakers in the door as well, but I'm not really down with all the cutting that would be required. An option though if there is a 6.5" offering that is a must-have.

I listen to a wide range of music as well, so pretty much everything goes. Rap and trance needs to sound decent if at all possible. Remember that I am looking for a nice upgrade over stock, and not an award-winning system.

Looking for:

decent head unit $120-160: Clarion, Eclipse or Alpine seem to be the picks - must play MP3's and having USB hookup a bonus.
speakers $150-250: component system, have been looking at Polk Audio, I don't have too many ideas in this area, weather resistant would be nice, although I don't really plan on leaving the top down in a thunderstorm, but happens
amp - $150-250: 2 channel... 80-120 watts at 4 ohms
installation hardware: for amp and head unit, seems to be required

Any particular direction I should go in? Product from the US seems to be real cheap on eBay these days, and I can get it shipped to a US location for pickup later. Also plan on doing the installation myself.

Thanks for any feedback you guys might have.
