Building a box for a Convertible Chevy Sprint

Hey

I need some help...I have never designed a system for a convertible...
The car currently has a Clarion 53wx4 head unit running four 4" Speakers. The car has a stock alternator that is 50A. With having such a small alternator it does not leave me a lot of options as far as amplifiers go.

One available option was a BAZOOKA 8" NOS SUB because it's small in size but I wasn't sure if it would work well in a convertible.

What do you guys recommend for a sub/enclosure and amplifier?

Any help is greatly appreciated

What are you aftr? All kinds of output or more SQ oriented? how much space are you willing to sacrifice in the car? I know a couple of people who have done dual 10's and dual 12's in them before but if your just looking at rounding out the sound a simple 8" bazooka behind the seat may be your best bet.

I want to add some bass since the car only has 4" speakers and I want to keep the whole setup in the trunk so I don't get broken into.

What should I pay attention to since its a convertible? Will I lose a ton of the bass when the top is down?

This is a thread from a Suzuki Swift/Sprint forum that has a post dealing with the same question as yours. There's a lot of different ideas going around about it from just running a bass tube to a full out dual 10" system. Should help you out a bit...

Also keep in mind that the sub will sound totally different when the top is down than it does with the top up due to SPL differences in the cabin. You gotta move a lot of air to get some decent base in a convertible.

I either go big or go home?

Lets say a pair of JLW0 subs wired @4ohm with 300rms be enough?

I'm sure a pair of tens with 300W would fill it out nicely. With teh top open though your likely going to lose 90% of it. Even if you had a bigger system though...top down and the volume goes with it. Not so much the higher bass frequencies but anything below 35Hz-40Hz is going to fall off dramaticaly when you put the top down.

When I had the back seat out of my Jeep for a period, I put my 15" 4th Order in for S&G. When the soft-top was up, you could watch the whole thing balloon in and out with the music. It was quite humourous to watch.
