I agree about the 'chrome' under the gold plate being nickel. And under that may be copper. The term 'triple chrome plate' usually consists of a copper and nickel layer under the chromium layer. But I do not know for sure if this process is similar with gold plating.
At any rate, it would be interesting to see what the resistance differences would be between cheapola lead terminals, and fancy gold and platinum, and even brass. I presume the differences would be in miliohms but who knows.
