Are we talking about amplifiers in this post? I'm pretty sure it was all about the jackhammer.

MTX had some pretty good amps for their time (81000d), that many competitors used on different (not MTX) subs. But this isn't about comparing amps now is it?

Recently MTX has all these ads comparing cone excursion and voice coil diameter per dollar ratios... useless BS, all marketing.
A lot of flash and not a lot of ground breaking performance.

I'd call their track record when it comes to subs pretty weak. And if you want to compare trophies to trophies, maybe check out how many people succeed with DD's then.

I also know that Earthquake has won more than it's fair share of trophies, but I wouldn't call their trackrecord consistent with quality.

But a high performance woofer would not weight 370lbs IMO.. Infact you could probably shave a few Gs of the price tag if it wasn't made heavy for appearance sake... that is kind of lame IMO..

I would sooner use a pair of smaller woofer for the same or better overall performance and alot less weight.....

of course I don't drive a blinged out H2 either...
Sure the Jackhammer could be lighter, it could be smaller, it could be less... but... not everyone wants smaller... lighter... the same thing everyone else has. This woofer was designed for WOW factor... if you have a SUV and drive around on 26" rims.. you could shave some size off those... does anyone NEED a $100K luxury SUV if it's never going to go off road? No. This woofer was built for the 1% of the population that have lots of money and want something that no one else on their block does.

Well I know that MTX broke a world record not that long ago over in Europe... talked with the guy who did it.. and if we're talking "quality" two names come directly to mind... Mark Eldridge and Tim Baillie... They both won world titles in SQ with them (Mark later went on to other brands with out as much luck). I also remember that quite a few Thunderforce members had some pretty good success with the RFL.

If you are considering the Jackhammer as an SPL competition sub... I'm not fully aware and have not researched it fully, but back when I competed a few years ago, anything over 18" was illegal to use.

I think you need to check your information on that one.

In the last 5 years mark's 4runner has won 8 out of the 10 world finals in iasca/usac. (only counting regular class's).

Oh and im a big mtx/mitek fan. GO Xtant!

MTX Jackhammer, RF15K, both wow factor items and as such both are impractacle.
They aren't meant to go in your daily driver's here folks so why bother with the "Oh it's too heavy", "It's too expensive", etc. BS.

Considering we're all car audio fans here maybe you should try giving some support for someone trying to make a product "out of the norm". The Jackhammer doesn't have to break any world records to be a success. It got people looking at MTX products so its job has been accomplished.

And I second the thought of two of those in the Hearse. How thick can you get plexiglass these days?

Id say it was made for %99 of the population with money >> brains...

I can see myself being able to afford one, but why ?

It is just like buying a overpriced & overrated truck... yep; for extra points throw 22s on it for the 'urban jungle'.... or give that truck to mom for aggressive road hog style grocery getting...

Even for the bling bling crowd... I see no advantage to having 370lbs of weight behind your subwoofer...

Heaven help ya if your install works around custom hydraulic or pneumatic systems where space is a concearn, or if you want to keep weight low for speed....

This thing is like a rhinestone butt plug for your SUV...

Naa see my problem is these mainstream companies and thier marketing BS... look at MTXs site on this thing... its all a bunch of fluff talk... fluff talk that you actually pay extra for...

Akin to paying too much for a chrome woofer that looks nice but is mostly a gimmick...

Companies that are really ahead of the curve come out with true innovations, not gimmicks...

The JBL 6kw amp is an example of a true statement piece and engineering for example

The RF 15Kw amp.. we will see... based on my perception of the company it probably has an extremely convienient rating system...

It would have to operate @ 62% + efficency at any output level to meet their claims... thats a tall order for an A/B output stage....
