Like I say, DVWV, its all mentality. Good thing Sony, Treo, Crossfire and so forth didn't say "it'll never work" Honest to God buddy. if a single 22 year old with merely sweat equity can raise $200K to start Longhorn Limo here in Calgary, over a great business plan and great business team, then why the F**K can't a team of wizards raise $150K? for offshore imports from China? Its all about mentality.... If only you knew. See? I told you this was frusterating......
What does everybody else think as well? is this something worth at least pursueing? or is this just a lofty idea not worty it. Call me crazy but stretching your thinking is a lot easier then stretching your paycheck to last the rest of the month, for the next 40 plus years. Try this.... Go to Wal-mart... whos greeting you when you enter the door? and old person.... do they do that because they want to? probably NOT!!!! finances dictate peoples lives more then they'll ever admit. If you dont do something different then you always have, you'll always get what you've always got.

i actually made a reply to that post but i dont konw what happend to it so imma do it again

positives were the ability to do what i like, which is the car audio installs. the shop owner was and still is a good spl buddy of mine, a very good installer at that in many aspects of the field, so there was alot i could learn, stuff that i have never done before. ofcourse the money offer was good as well. those were pretty much the positives from my point of view. As far as meeting diff ppl, i really didnt enjoy that. i come across alot of shady individuals involved in the business side of the car audio industry as a competitor as it is.

now the negatives did not have to do with the job in particular, nothing like a cold install bay or no christmas b/c of busy schedule. The biggest turn off was that there was really no where to move up to from that position. The way i saw it is that position offered no vertical progress, only horizontal. I have seen this with MANY installers in the GTA and some of these guys were pretty DAMN good at what they are capable of doing. Nontheless for the last 7 or so years all i saw was installers goin from shop to shop to shop to shop......and these are good quality installers!!! As you said yourself, no one would offer them the financial support to open their own shop or they just were not good businessman. There is only so much intrinsic reward that I can feed off of while occupying the same position. And being a 30+ years old installer at someone else's shop just isnt for me.

i've looked into this in the past.. if you mean getting into the installing side, it's not easy. i asked around at several shops, and they all say pretty much the same thing "what experience do you have".. the old catch 22. and how about doing mobile dynamics for experience, even though it costs an arm and a leg? every shop i visited said they don't care too much for that, it's not real experience. if you're really serious about it, buy the MECP study guide, get the basic level on your own, and keep photos and stuff of all the work you do for yourself, for friends, etc, build a portfolio... all things i wish i could do, but i need to work full time to pay my bills, and don't exactly have the $$ or the time to be doing installs to take photos of.
anyway, good luck!

great point Leg0man , about the portfolio for forwarding to your employer. I have also thought about opening up my own shop in the near future but it will take more than $$$ and determination to make it happen , same thing with everything else . In the begining it will be tough as hell to find a cliental because u will be the new kid on the block , while there are A+B sound, Vision, FutureShop etc.... so what can u offer your customers that they cant , most likely your products will be more expensive than the GIants because they buy in large lots , while the new owner(s) will be putting out $50k + into gear so the cost will be up.... So what if you have the best installer in the world - while your paying rent and your overhead is caving in on you ,it will be realy hard to start up - BUT u will never know till u walked the path ... U will never learn untill u failed , right ......There will be pros and cons to every buisiness and it will be true most of the installs will be remote starters and alarms , keyless entry and basic systems

Anything is possible I think if u have the time and energy to do it
