Thought I should introduce myself...
Hi all.
I've recently gotten the urge to get a good system in my car again. It may not end up exactly like I had before, but would like to come close. Completely different car now too.
My old system I had was installed in a 1985 Merkur XR4TI, entire trunk/hatch (including spare wheel well) was turned into a speaker box.
In the rear:
Two 15" Crunch subs
4 8" Volcano speakers along top/back edge of rear seat.
PPI Promos 25 (I believe bridged, stable at 1Ohm)
Up front:
Denon DCR-80 deck (cassette, with ability to control CD changer)
Two Polk 4-way on left/right of dash
One 6.5 mid as centre channel
Back then, I think I paid around $5000.00 for the system. Now that I'm older, I'd like to put together a similarily loud and quality sound system, but on a budget. I'd love to be able to do an "old school" system, as that's what I'm familiar with. I could go with a newer deck, so I can play mp3s.
What's odd, if I have the model # right, I can't find any info on the old Denon deck I had, as though it never existed.
When I can find the cash to obtain what I need in way of deck, amp, speakers, I plan to do the hookup/install myself. Current car is a 2003 4-door Honda Civic.
Well, that's my plan, sort of, I've been trying to compare some amps etc... and gain some more knowledge of what's available. I've only found one PPI Promos 25 for sale, at a decent price, seems these are hard to come by now too.

Happy hunting, and welcome to CCA.

Thanks! Well, that's the problem, I'm not looking for something specific, whether new or used or old school equipment, I was hoping to recreate a "similar" system.
I may have to do one item at a time, ie. make an amp purchase first, then a deck, then speakers... So am trying to determin if for example I have 2 15" subs, 2 10" subs (I have these 10" at least, old school), and new speakers in the front doors, I am trying to figure out what kind of amp and ratings for amp would power these.
I want it loud, lots of bass, and of a fairly high quality of sound. My apologies, as I'm obviously at the very beginning stage of figuring out what I could put together.

Thanks!
Ok, bad memory, I think I found the Denon I had! DCR-5490 Wondering if might be worth buying another and getting CD changer. Currently, I have a Blaupunkt RPD 550 deck. My other option, is fix an old Alpine 7909 that's stashed away at moment. (problem with it inserting/ejecting CDs)
What might be best option?

In regards to the transport mechanism in the Alpine, I'll probably end up doing the repair myself. I've had that deck open in the past, to try to figure out what was wrong with it. Now that I've gained a few years of knowledge, I'm going to try it again.
Just hoping it might be something straight forward. Other option, but I don't know where locally to take it, would be getting a repair shop to fix it.
