If anyone needed to be reminded that "you get what you pay for", or that cheap products have inherent limiting factors, you needed to look no further than CES 2004.
Boss had an armored car there...
It doesn't get much more inherently, structurally sound for an SPL vehicle than that.
And this Boss armored car had [b]55 twelve inch subs... I'd assume their best SPL model.
I was there with a serious SPL competitor (a bit uncharacteristic of me, sure ), who wanted a listen. My imagination wasn't going enough to have curiousity about the sound, I was content with ogling...
But it was after hours, and the SPL limit that exhibitors needed to stay under during the day's event was no longer an issue...
So at any rate, this guy in a suit looks at us and says "OK, sure... how many seconds do you think you can take it for?"
My SPL-loving friend chuckled and said "I don't know, 55 twelves... let's see what you got."
Well, he climbed in the passenger seat, I stood in the doorsill. The rear doors were closed, just the passenger door open because I was standing in it.
He fired this thing up...
And damn, it was loud... but I've heard pairs of 12's that were louder... much less 55 of them?
Big disappointment.
The thing was hovering around 150dB maybe.
55 twelves, an armored car, and all it can do is a 150?
I'd expect 55 bazooka tubes to be able to reach higher dB levels...
We were both disappointed, we were expecting much more, with the rep's ominous warning of "so... how many seconds do you think you can take?"
lol...

Geolemon....
I guess you missed the whole point of building the armored vehicle. The system design was meant to give an aaaahh feeling when you look at it. If you took a good listen, it sounded very clear and precise. I watched many people walk by and commented on the install and the time it would have taken to build such a work of art. I am working on getting this vehicle up to Toronto for some of our big trade shows this summer. I hope you come out and see it again.

I guess you missed the point of my post.
If we "missed the whole point", then so did the very rep working the Boss booth at CES.
After all, it was us who witnessed a vehicle before us containing 55 twelve inch subs in an incredibly rigid vehicle...
A sound quality vehicle built with 55 twelves, eh?
And after all, it was the rep who issued the ominous challenge presented to us:

A SQ vehicle?
If you are going to try to have that vehicle brought to Toronto, I don't think that it's me that needs to give it another listen...
I hope you aren't disappointed, if you are expecting a SQ vehicle.
Possibly, you could bring it up for an IASCA competition, and let the judges reveal to you all the numerous ways in which the Boss armored car is not a SQ vehicle.
