The Type-R sound pretty good ported or sealed. Depending on your enclosure the newer model Type-R could probably handle around 600Wrms. Wire your sub for the highest impedance load to reduce the power from your amp, or be careful with the gains!

I know a gent who is running 1300rms to a 12" type R daily, but I wouldnt recommend going much over 600-800 unless you know damned well that you wont ever clip it.

Wait a second... You know a guy feeding his Type-R over 1000W RMS daily?
What's his amp? And does he have a low-pass filter?

i know a guy putting about 1300watts rms to his 12" type r also. the amp is a hifonics 2006d. it says 1500watts at 2ohm but its a little overrated.

Guy is using an elemental designs nine.1, rated at 1300 rms into 1 ohm at 12 volts.

Hes running it active, I believe its passed at 75hz, been a while since I looked at his setup.

I have a Type R and just got a RF 750S (Year 2000 - Power Series).

Being old school RF, and a Power series amp, it's going to be underrated, so I'm assuming it will at least give me 900W RMS, and I'm hoping I can pump all of that into my single Type R to get a lot of kick out of it without blowing it.

Apparently there's a few people here putting a lot more into them than that and not running into any problems.

I'm going to be using my oscilloscope to set my gains and ensure the signal is not clipped for sure.

Ive personally sat through a 2100 watt burp on a type R 12". Theyre tough, but like anything, when you push it that hard it doesnt take much to find the limits.

From what I know, 900 rms will be juuuuuust right, enjoy.
