Hey guys,

Lookin at some speakers and an amp and had a quick question. The speakers I'm lookin at run about 60W rms at 4 ohms. Should I be looking for an amp that puts out nor more than 60w per channel or is it ok to go a little more, say 75w? Don't wanna invest a ton of money on everything then end up blowing the speakers cuz they're getting too much power through them.

Keeping the gains at reasonable levels will not effect sound but just protect your speakers. If for example your speakers can handle 60W RMS and you have an amp that will give them 100W RMS, by dialing back the gain you will not give the speakers the entire 100W but closer to the 60W which is recommended.

Im assuming you want to put in a coax or prefab component set..... headroom is definalty a good thing... but if you are just turning down the gain so you aren't even able to realize the extra power there is not much point......

likewise if you keep the gains up but arn't carful enough you risk damaging the speakers.... you could burn them out, or cause mechanical damage....


for a n00bz I say go rated power....
