If the dust cap has separated from it's center glue point, that may account for the noise. It doesn't start until there is a fair bit of excursion and if it is being flexed it could be bouncing off the top end of the former. At one point I was wondering if it was hitting the back plate but I don't think it was moving far enough....

Rob if you want to pop it out again and power it up the weather is supposed to be better by the weekend.....
It looks like the kind people on CCA are suggesting it come out ... again ... to play on its own, outside of the box ...
I wouldn't want to push that but if the time permits this weekend, maybe we can give it a whirl ...

Let me get back to you on that, just see what I'm scheduled for.

So for kicks, I emailed JL to see what they'd have to say ... and guess what ...

"Hi Robert.
There isn't a problem with the sub. The problem is the adjustment of the amp. The amp is clipping causing the woofer to move past its limitations and make the popping noise you are hearing."

I'm not 100% convincned so I guess the thing here is to throw the sub onto a bigger amp to see if the amplifier is really the issue at hand. I HOPE that's the issue but ... who knows.

Was the Techs name Jose Rodriguez? I requested max enclosure info and he told me to use a 20sq" by 15" long port for a 2.25cuft box... Works out to 8.8888sq" per cubic foot.

Maybe the front cone will fly off. That would be cool.

Yeah, I'll be sure to film me busting my sub if and when that happens, just for you

That's what I hope WON'T happen but ... who the hell knows with this thing.
I think its cursed ... maybe there's a dead soul living it.

Haha, I've got so much crap in my house, you don't need to lend me anything ... unless you want to of course

I'm going to get a schedule for this weekend, as soon as I do I'll let you know if we need to make some video footage for the site this weekend (aka taking the sub out) ... I'll be in touch in regards to that.

P.S. I can always sell the box
