Not using standard speaker door mounts.
Should I just put a speaker grill on it or should I block it off completely or does someone have some ideas?

Do you mean the door frame, not the interior panel?

If its the frame, I think you might want to brownbread over it to cover. Then some small lights (neon/led?) that could diffuse through a nice grille cover on the panel.

Turn it into a flower pot. Put a venus fly trap in it and you'll never have to worry about flies in your car again.
