Are you looking for more of a sq, spl, or sql sound?

I will disagree with the other forums and reviews, it is a very good sub. But it is not that loud an SPL sub and it is a little pricey. It has very good SQ though I have never heard it in a competition car only in demo and private rides.

I have no idea if you are looking for SPL or SQ or both. If you are looking for SPL and SQ this is a must audition sub, if you are looking for an SQ sub it is a must audition sub, if you are looking for SPL and SPL alone look elsewhere. it is a pricey sub so it is tough to recommend

The Type x subs are one of the best allround subs on the market. They were designed and engineered by Tymphany. The same company that makes Scan-Speak, Vifa, and Peerless. For SQ you will not find many subs better, if any. And they aren't really that expensive (about $500 or less at my local store). They are not designed to be an SPL only sub, rather one that is designed to just about everything well. With one of the 12" subs in a rather small vented box (1.4ft3) I managed to hit 145db with one PDX 1.1000 in a friends car. Not a record by any means, but very reasonable. And that was with an SQ box.

It took me nearly a year to find a sub that I was happy with. I listened to more brands that I'd like to mention. But in the end, I chose two Type X 12's.
I don't think anyone will say the subs suck after 5 minutes in my car. IMHO!

fozzz, I've heard they are quite power hungry?
what's your take on this, since you are running them?

I'm not going crazy in my car with power. Each sub is getting about 500watts. My cars is anything but loud though as my subs are mounted IB. If I gave them a ported box I'm sure I would easly hit mid 140's and still have it sound good.

So are they power hungry? Yes, but not compared to most subs made these days. When you look at realistic sensitity ratings of subs you'll see that the Type X is in the same boat as most other subs.
