JL has some info on their site about how to install a w7 ... but I'm assuming its more-less the same to take one apart as well.

Might have to give it a try, even though I don't want to. Like I said, the sub hasn't lost any performance, its hitting hard and it doesn't sound blown ... it just makes that strange sound when it's turned up (so really flexing) and only on certain notes.

I guess it doesn't matter what song or test tone I listen to, we won't know until I take it out? Ugh.

But I got a video and everything

According to JL instructions, he did it incorrectly (with the pulling, as opposed to rolling in to expose the screws) but other than that ...

I think we should
Make a YouTube-friendly series out of it lol

There is a flat cut in the mounting ring. open it with a screwdriver then it will separate from the surround. Take off the lil wire that holds the surround centered and remove the screws from behind it.

YOOOUUUU CANNNN DOOO IIIT!!!

When you put it back together that outside ring snaps back together.

That has to be the most fcuked up way of getting a sub out of an enclosure... Must be why JL Audio is the best

Haha nice ... hey Mike, if YOU won't do it, someone else will!

I'm going to see what my schedule is like and I'll figure things out ... thanks for the offer though, may need to take you up on that one soon.

I gotta say though, this sub is a lot of fun for a single 10"
Sorry Mike, IT IS!

And when I think of JL products, YOU come to mind and your setup.
Glad you had some input here, thanks a lot.

They probably charge more for that black matte finish of the sub itself ... really, that's gotta cost the manu's more, compared to shiney parts like MTX and Infinity.
Those guys must suck

JL is unique cuz no one would bother to copy THAT mounting method.
