WTF.......Alpine sux a$$

just built a box for a buddy for a couple 10" type R's, 3.1 cubes, tuned to 34hz, running off a Alpine MRP-M1000, i had the subs paralled, for a final load of 1.5-1.8ohms......it pounded until the volume was up to bout 22....than into protection......damnit......thats only slightly under the rated 2ohm limit......
so my question.....are these really this finicky? I hate alpine anyways....told him to buy a real amp.....but thats another issue
so what do we do here.....i re-ran it back at 4ohm......now can turn it way up......and theres obvioussly no power now....arggg
hes pissed....he bought all this stuff and shoulda asked me 1st no?

sorry just venting i guess

how many subs? coils config or model #?

MRP-M1000 is not a junk amp, so there's something wrong in the setup

Angry

2 x 10" dual 4ohm subs.....final load like i said was hovering 1.5-1.8ohms, on my 3 different multimeters, the amp is rated for 2 ohms, this was only a little under, i was counting on the box rise to bring me back up to 2 ohms or close to it....
it pounds .....but when u really wanna thump it to show it off.....protect mode....it doesnt pop fuses though?
so am i missing somthing here?

bad ground maybe? put a DMM at the12v & ground amp terminals see if it goes under 12v when you crank it.

^^x2, sounds like lack of power to the amp...check wiring, connections, ground, speaker wiring, gain setting, etc...have done that set up lots of times with no issues at all.

I agree with above. My MRP-M500 will happily clip the output and destroy the sub before going into protect (i learned that the hard way, and more then once) Its also at 2ohms.

With 2 dual 4's you can have either a 4ohm or 1 ohm nominal(I guess 16 aswell). So while the DMM is showing you more then 1 the relative resistance in the leads are probably adding a few points. Put the leads together and subtract the resistance from what you are seeing from the load presented to the amplifier.

The amp is making the power below rated input resistance just when it sees the overage in draw it is doing what it should be doing and protecting.

Your buddy should have bought single 4's or dual 2's.

My alpine MRP 1000 has no problem as long as i stay over the 2 ohm rating, i've never went below 2ohm but it must not be rated at 2 for nothing.tell your friend to get a 1 or below stable or change the subs configuration. My.02

I was just about to say the same thing. You can't just guess imP rise lol. And by the sounds of it you have them wired down to 1 ohm. Check your multi meter leads. Put the leads together first and see if they are reading. If it's read when the leads are together add or subtract that number from what thE coil reading and that's what the subs are actually playing without imp rise. I bet if you put your multiple meter leads together it will be reading between .5 and .8 ohms. Also I am sure I read on another forum that alpine amps some how over come some imp rise some how? I am sure I read that
