WTF.......Alpine sux a$$

power kills.....absolute power kills absolutely.... without discrimination. 1ohm load on a 2ohm max load amp(china made) nowadays just dont fly..... its not "handmade in the us of a" gear anymore and it needs to be treated as such. expect 2/3rds less amp life on said setup(amp life)
time for a rethink/redo

(You'd want to series a 1 Ohm resistor to bring your final load to 2 Ohms... your idea there will give you a 3 Ohm load... although I wouldn't bother doing that at all.. the idea is borderline retarded)
Stop doing installs until you know what you're doing before you hurt yourself or someone else.

The response was pretty much what I thought too.

Like everyone has said, buy an amp that is rated at the impedance you're looking for or change the subs to match, and stick with matching the nominal impedances of the equipment. If you stick with the manufacturer ratings I'm sure you'll get it right.

oh ya....im not claiming i kknow everything.....thats why i posted here.......nice catch on the 2 ohm resister!! haha....
i Have done it in a home setting with no problems, maybe the power difference is that much?
i know enough about install to consistantly take crap and make it outpound any department store stuff.....
do i need to learn more....ya......dont we all?
why is there forums.....to learn....thanks for that though
we are changin the amp.......my box design werked VERY good....so ya....bitchen.....nice to have been schooled?

With 2 dual 4's you can have either a 4ohm or 1 ohm nominal(I guess 16 aswell). So while the DMM is showing you more then 1 the relative resistance in the leads are probably adding a few points. Put the leads together and subtract the resistance from what you are seeing from the load presented to the amplifier.
The amp is making the power below rated input resistance just when it sees the overage in draw it is doing what it should be doing and protecting.
Your buddy should have bought single 4's or dual 2's.

just an update, we replaced the dual 4's with the dual 2's , and now, obvioussly, the problem is solved, could have avoided this whole scenario by knowing what i was putting in, he forgot his amp spec sheet when he brought it over, and i was too lazy to go upstairs to look it up, so ya lesson learned, but now its friken purfect, just rippin his car up......so ya thanks for the help all!!
