WTF Sat Radio Antenna Install
#21
I find this whole post pretty funny on many different levels........
One one level we have concerns about where someone installs a antenna on a SAT radio install
On another level in other posts and on other forums people don't seem to give a rats *** about making something look good and professional behind the scenes of a install.
So what deserves to be installed correctly and not correctly ? Because it is seen then it should be correct but if it's not seen then 2 tie wraps and shove it in is ok cause it's not seen and is "safe"
On one level big box's get slammed because of the ratio to smart people verses dumb people (untrained, stupid, moronic whatever) and they get upset when people slam "the box", well "the box" does it to themselves and the people caught in the downward spiral are the good guys that work there.
So on the other hand, the smart people need to understand who they work for and the mentality of "the box" and do what they can do to make their installs the best they can do and not take it personal when "the box" gets attacked, because to defend "the box" based on your quality of install is a health issue just waiting to happen. They work at "the box" because of various reasons (benefits, pay etc) and it's not worth creating health issues defending "the box" in a losing battle.
On another level one installer will claim that all alarms should be soldered due to the quality and long term ability of said soldered joints and will bash other installers for not caring and doing this BUT will defend crimp caps and connectors till he passes out in the rest of his installations but yells from the highest mountain about his soldering of other things.
One installer will take the time to router speaker plates out of ABS and will come under fire from another installer who figures whatever type of wood is laying around works just fine as a speaker plate material.
What gives ?
It really comes down to personal pride, do the install the way you feel comfortable doing but don't be surprised if said installers comes under fire from other installers that take the time to do said installation better and to a higher standard.
Unless you spend the time to do every installation that you touch to a high standard through out I don't think you have the right to question the quality of other installers work.

Point taken Tim, Thanks
Yes, sometime....well most time I take this "big box" thing way to personal and those you know me, KNOW ME. Well, I think why we are doing what we are doing is becuse we love the challenge and learning from it
You are right, and we have had this conversation in the past. I would say this thread is at the end......so again, all of you can bite my shinny metal ***

Has nothing to do with you personally, it's been a day of reading whiney posts on all kinds of forums from people claiming to be installers and that think they are good but eat and sleep with the crimp caps etc.
I bet if you polled installers and asked how many people install antenna's on the dash or the roof, bet you the dash and rear tray will win every time.
Basically the world is going to , no one cares about quality and the future is in the hands of kids that don't care....................

Good points Tim. I also think that us older installers also have the ideas instilled into our brains that you never do something half ***. If your not going to do it right don't do it at all. And I can remember my Dad saying that as a kid over and over. I think the newer gereration is one that looks for the easiest and quickest way to get something done.

Here's my input, and it's a little scewed as I live in truck country and installing sat radio in a pick up is easy. All antennas are roof mounted, cable routed through the third brake light and into the car from there. I also stock 2500 bucks worth of bracketron because nothing bugs me more than all these "growths" hanging from car windshields these days.

That was kind of the point - this was an informal poll of whether this was an isolated incident or if it is becoming common. Too bad people choose to grandstand than stay on topic...

Woa, calling the kettle black aren't we?
You have a funny way of "taking a poll"....sounded more like you calling out BS on a shop not doing installs "the right way" or more to the piont "your way"

Did you not read my entire first post? Here.. the last line:
And yes I am taking issue with a shop taking a bullshit shortcut and charging full rate for it. It is not 'my way', it is the 'right way'.
Anyway - all you want to do is argue instead of addressing the question. Has to make a person wonder..

Wondering how a guy that works one day a week has so much opion on the Install Standards in Canada.
If you are wondering why all the hostility, very simple........just sick and tired of people with little knowledge do nothing but bring down what I have spent a lifetime trying to bring to the next level.
If you are not part of the solution......you are the problem.
