The best analogy I can come up with is a cellular phone. There are different Canadian providers (Telus, Rogers, Fido, Bell) but they will also work with their American (and even international) counterparts.
Secondly, who said we won't be getting American programming? The Canadian versions will just be "trimming the fat". For example, instead of nine Latino stations, perhaps Canadian programming will have one or two. I think most people with experience with satellite radio already will still be happy with the Canadian programming & those that haven't experienced it yet will be more than happy.

wow. you guys do realize that they are not re-building the whole XM satellite radio network just for Canadians??? all of the channels are the same except for the Canadian content and the exclusion of the US news content......i don't like being force fed by the CRTC, but i also don't have to listen to the channels i don't want to listen to. that's why there are more than one channel.....????

I'll take my Canadian XM Radio (same radio that is in the US but with my Canadian designated serial number) and be happy that I'm keeping the Canadian economy growing and keeping my fellow Canadians employed by keeping my money in Canada. Plus this way I don't have 40 or so junk channels (weather and traffic in US cities) to listen to. Plus I might get to hear some new and up coming Canadian artists (if I want to listen to one of the Canadian channels) and hear something before the American's do.
I don't know... that's just my take on it... eh
