The ATOMIC SHOWDOWN...APX vs. Quantum
#1
Ok we did the test...after ions of being told by Atomic that the SPL Quantums will be louder we finally compared them...first we tried them in Chris's car...one D3, at 0.5ohms burped 146.99db...then we put in the APXs and hit a max of 147.57db at 0.25ohms...we burped my car and did a 148.0db (with the car on) at 0.25ohms with the APXs...then we went to the quantums and did a 146.4 at 0.5ohms
so basically the APXs win...but by a heck of alot more in my box than his!

no doubt about that but I have the same amp he has and they don't gain that much by going to 0.25 only a few tenths...it would have been nice to have all the subs as dual 1s but we didn't so thats the best we could do

I was just about to comment on that ... the impedance rise is making a huge difference...
I just did a similar test... my Audiobahn AW1205q is a dual 2 ohm and Chris B's sub is a dual 1ohm... with the two subs burping at same battery voltage... I gained 1.3dB using a dual 1 sub ... power difference is 1800 and change @ 1ohm and just under 2900 watts @ 0.5 ohm
do the same test just to see.. use a volt meter with peak hold and a current clamp with peak hold... then mutiply voltage and current to see what the wattage is...also divide voltage by the current to see what your impedance rise is... betcha its close to 3x the coils re and that uis why you are getting so much difference from the different subs... D3 dont produce squat at 1.5 ohms(your dual 1 sub).... but will do alright at 0.75 or whatever your impedance rise is

I understand what you are saying..Chris has the D3 and for him that sub will work better by a few pointsbecause he needs to load the amp down to 0.25 to get more output from the amp... but to honestly judge a subs performance against another you need to apply the same amount of power to it...no BS ...what if you were using an amp that outputs more power at 0.5 ohm? then which sub would be louder??? you can't test subs that way and say which one is better because it is POWER dependant.

yeah that is the differance...my box is bigger...I wasn't asking what the differance was cause I knew it was cause my box is bigger than his lol. My freq is a few hz higher but not signifigant really

hmm so the diff in frequency wont apply much but I solely do believe that the most differnce that you noticed with one sub being louder than the other is because of the power differnce and not efficiency ... the only true way to test the subs is to have same impedance coils on each
