big powerful boys
Sounds like why USAC was created: to take what IASCA was doing but focus a little more on the SPL part and make it known that having bass was OKAY! lol
It would be nice if DbDrag or whatever had some very basic installation rules. Like having your enclosure solidly mounted to the vehicle, amps mounted to the car and the wiring is safely routed and terminated. And bonus points for clean integrated installations.

its pretty clear that the car audio scene in general is going downhill...both SPL and SQ.
I think bassrace is what will help bring it back the most. Typical bassrace vehicles will demo during competitions...be opened up for the public to view and not be total fire hazards. Theyre designed to play music.
Also will all the classes available...you dont even need to play loud music to win. Could easily win the 129.9 class with a $750 setup

id like to see psychlone take off but i really dont see it happening. Theres not nearly enough interest in it from the competitor base and also from DbDrag admins from what Ive seen. It was supposed to come out last year or maybe even the year before but never did.

How do you weigh the value of properly secured wiring vs. decibels?
Is a nice wiring job worth 1db whereas a "moderately nice" job worth 0.5?
(either of those scenarios is insane btw....)
No, I know the meter is king and the non-biased decider of all in the SPL world. But with most of the competitors being young guys with generally limited funds, it's educational for them to create a safe installation that won't burn down their parents house when their 1995-whatever has an electrical fire in the driveway because of some monster used amp they just dumped in the hatch is shorting out from the nasty wiring. So because there is no fuse on the 8 runs of 0 ga. running through the sharp-edged hacked-up hole in the firewall, the fire just burns and burns.
Anyway, it's incentive to at least create safety. Can't run up the meter when your car is burnt. Forget it even being about points. Your car goes through a safety inspection becore it's allowed to compete. Just like real drag racing.

Out of curiosity though.. how many times have you heard of an SPL vehicle going up in flames due to a poor installation?
It's a very common joke/comment from SQ people... but in reality it happens VERY rarely.
The only one I can think of is the Pioneer truck a couple of years ago.. and that was a different story all together... (something fell on a battery bank and shorted out the bus bars)

I too have a loud SQ car... =)
I did a kick to the chest comparison with ear plugs, and maxing out the volume gets things close to a live rock concert. (Tested on my way back from a Nightwish concert).

Car fires happen alot. Do they usually hit the news? No, only if it causes a traffic jam or a house to go up in flames. Do they report what causes the fire even if it does hit the paper? No, not usually. It can happen though. I'm not talking about dedicated SPL cars. I'm talking about the kid who wants to live the SPL dream in his hooptie.
