The Explorer Thread

Wondering what everyone is running in their explorers. I've heard a lot about firing the subs to the side with the ports back, has anyone tried this? Has anyone tried a SS1-2NW setup as well?

waggy always uses small as boxes. Just build the box over the window line, there is a ton of room in most explorers. Subs up port back works in them.

The way I have mine setup right now is for street A, I am thinking of running street C or SS1-2NW next year. I would really like to try the no wall setup but not sure if it will be loud enough. Has anyone tried this in an explorer or similar vehicle?

Mike - you have a good idea so far..

Just use flared ports, you will not regret it!

Indeed. A friend and I used subs up / ports back in his Explorer. While it was not for competition use specifically he did meter at 154 @ ~35 Hz on an AC mic with that setup consisting of 2x SI Mag D2 15s (first gen 15s, older TC build) and MA Audio MA5082HX Amplifier (current hog Class-A/B unit). This was several years ago before I had my own Termlab mic

Seemed to work really well in that vehicle.

The box I have now is about 3 cubic feet common chamber 2 10" firing up with three 4" round ports 13" long external. I'm hitting low 140's on the TL with 1100w. I know that the amp is holding me back but I can't afford anything bigger right now, so I am kinda limited to box design at the moment.

Mike,

What subs are you using? That might help regarding advise on optimum enclosure sizing and tuning.
