If I were you I'd get the specs on your sub including recommended box specs. If you have the time/experience/resources you'll want to play around with some figures from the specs off the web and meter your SPL. Remember, it'll take some tries to get the best tuning.

In my dodge neon I was hitting 155.7 with 2 12" hcca's in a SEALED box, running around 1400RMS, so go for a ported design if you want obnoxiously loud
155.7? Anyone else think this is way off? Seasoned pros have a hard time making it over 150 in trunk cars.

Cool

hmmm, maybe seasoned pros by you may just not have the right equipment.

One of the employees at my shop just took 3 rockford 15" TeamRF's (<- rockford sponsored custom built subs) to 161.2. It's all about port tuning and gaining numbers by using the cabin of the vehicle to your advantage. The farther your sound has to travel before the meter is going to affect your numbers, if you do it right it can be in a very positive way. Just with trial-and-error messing around with his ports we gained 3dB's. We ran it last year and won #1 in our state of Wisconsin, this year he didn't want to run locally and #1 this year only hit 159.

Hell, one of my installs was a single phoenix gold titanium elite in a custom ported box with 2000wRMS burped a 152.

Seasoned pro's hit 160s and above. The only time you will struggle beating 140's is if you continue to use pre-fab boxes.

Granted, my 155 was also a burp, not a cruising system, but if you're doing SPL comp setup you don't even think of running it at full volume for more than a few seconds.

Yes.... yes it is way off. Unless he's talking Outlaw score or something... even that is hard to believe.

There's no way you'd get to 155.7 with 2 12's in a sealed box and only 1400w. (btw, we're talking the new sensors here... I'd believe just about anything off the old AC mics, but that's because they're a joke these days)

OH... and the IASCA record is not 179... it's 180.3 actually...

Exclamation

I knew someone was going to mention the mic situation, and you are exactly right. My score was with the old mics, well hell I did it 4 years ago.

And thanks for the update on the world SPL, i was almost positive it was more than that but couldn't find any reliable info suggesting it.

We hold rockford's company record for 3 subs 1 amp, i'm sure you could get to 170 if you wanted to run about 9 subs and 9 amps but this was in the back of a saturn sc2...

this is getting more funny than anything - I hope no one on here is trying to battle me, I was just mentioning that if I could get 155 on the old mic (which btw comes to about 147 on the new mics) you could probably get more. Also the 1400wRMS is a Orion rating, the current draw was 220Amps @18volts. Back then it was all about cheating if you wanted to do anything.

Thanks everyone for your comments!

155 was my personal system. Obviously, since I ran a sealed box. The RF was a cooperative effort between my shop, rf industries, and the RF tech crew. If orion haden't gotten bought out they'd still be my #1 choice for sponsorship opportunities, seeing in their day they were the loudest sub [you don't need to challenge this... it's on paper] on the market. But now a/d/s/t is long gone, DEI is turning the Orion name into , and I guess that's the way the cookie crumbles.

I thought that the idea behind these forums was so that the "seasoned competitors" such as yourself, could help those that have not been in the scene very long to get better???? I guess once you reach a certain status the guys at the bottom just don't mater anymore...
