I just got my TermLab USB and am starting to learn its workings. I see that the sensor is registering between 100 and 105 db in a quiet car interior! I've got the MIN setting at 100.... does this seem right? I've heard the sensor isn't really accurate below 120 db - which is fine, but I'd like to confirm.

Any other tips? The meter seems to do exactly what i'd expect - and easily! No complaints other than measuring 105 db in a quiet car interior! any thoughts?

Mine sometimes measures upto 125 db's when quite. I posted a thread on termpro and they told me it's due to a dirty power supply, ie bad wall socket.

The meter is said to still read accurate, just reads those DB's when the system isn't on because of that.

Right on....I can't see how a fully charged drycell/deep cycle battery directly connected to the control box could be dirty? Although I've tried it with several outlets in the same house and arrived at the same "resting" reading of 100 ish.....

As long as the readings are dead accurate like the industry says it is, then I don't care about how low it reads. I'm going to set the threshold back up to 110 so that I simply don't see it...

thanks!

Mine (Classic Termlab) reads right around 100-105 when it's quiet, or relatively quiet in my garage. Not the same mics I know, but I believe it is normal.

Believe it or not, I have had wierd readings with my Termlab when the cable between the sensor and break-out box is kinked.....no kinks!

Try a Monster Stage II clean power surgebar. If your plugging into a non-filtered power socket it might help with the ambient "power" noise.

interesting to see ppl with no recent termlabs giving advise

anyways, whatever your termlab is doin its fine. never unplug it when its on, NEVER.

your mic will do a reading even with no input into the mic, thats normall.

the USB version reads 0.7 db higher than the .NET set up (the big official one)

and dont play with your K-Factor, just set it to what it says on your mic and leave it.

Excellent. This unit is BRAND new, we're talking 3 days old here Yeah, I played again and it definitely jumps around the 100 db mark. I also noticed (as stated above) that without the sensor even plugged in it reads this....

Yah, and unplugging things while they're on is not usually a good idea I boot the computer, plug in the control box to usb, plug in lan cable and then plug in sensor. I reverse this order exactly when shutting down...

thanks for the advice!

u should have everything plugged in and ready to go before u actually start the termlab software. and when u are done first thing u should do is shut down the software and then unplug things.

have fun with your new toy!
