If displacement is the main factor in SPL, how does wattage fit into the equation?

If you have 2 subs with the same Xmax and SD, but the RMS wattage on sub A is 250W and the wattage on sub B is 500W, how does that affect the SPL?

Will sub A achieve the same displacement but using less power?

yeah if you look closley it takes something like 6 15 inch solo x's to match the output of a jackhammer according to mtx.

 

Kicker doesn't make a solo-x 15, and Yuli posted awhile back on this.. it was with 18" solo-x's and even more than 5 I think...

So you're saying more displacement doesn't equal more SPL?

I always thought it was about how much air can you move and how fast can you move it. In that sense Surface Area and Xmax would go hand in hand. The new DD 9515'g' motor is doing 82mm.

 

You must not mean 82mm of x-max... do you?
