ok so ive noticed people build some spl enclosures with more then 1 layer of MDF, its common scence to use more then one on the front baffle, but ive seen some that are 3-4 layers thick all around, and its to stop flexing from what i read.

so i was thinking, if you lose db's from a box flexing why not make it so it cant flex? my idea was to build a box out of square steel tubing, then put a single layer of mdf on the inside on all sides but the front baffle, also the frame would have a few steel braces on the inside as well. but the box on the outside would more or less look like a steel cage with wood inside, so you would have a gap from the top of the steel to the wood, thats bolted/screwed to the inside.

so after you do that, ur thinking yea, its pretty strong, but not strong enouph, so u go ahead and fill the steel on the outside with concrete so that the concrete is level with the rest of the steel. so it would more or less look like a concrete box with steel running through it.

my question is
would that be more effective or just as effective as a multi layered enclosure?

i was just wondering if anyones tried it, or if it would work. it would just save me the hastle of splitting wood and what not.

my cars in the shop today, so i was just sitting here thinking, mabey i was overthinking, but it sounds liek a good idea, i just wanna hear what everyone else thinks.

yea, i did realise that extreme vehicles were built like that...but my idea was more directed towards a non wall type box. i know it would be heavyier then a wooden box of 3-4 layers, but if weight wasnt an issue, would it be stronger and work better then a multi layered box?

 

lol.. i wasnt talking about the box im using now, or even the gear im using now. ill see what happens this season. what i have planned for next year is pretty huge, but we'll see how this year goes. thnx for the input tho. this is probably gonna be what i end up building later this season for next season.

 

oh, i see, my bad man...so basically if i could get the materials and all that for near the same price of the wood, screws and wat not and i have the space i should try it? this is not comming in this year, but next year wen i overhaul my setup im definatly thinking of using this type of box, but we'll see what happens wen it comes down to it.
