I second that, Riprock is a fine example of what vehicle preparation has done for them, they are world champs in extreme 2.
I don't have an extreme car, but I would tell you, an extreme car made with 1 layer of 3/4" MDF and the correct design (box) would be louder than a fully reinforced car (4" glass windows, etc) and the wrong design, much louder, btw.
The "vehicle preparation" on a extreme car is "box preparation", because the whole thing is a box. If they change small things on the box their score can fall 10dB without messing with the car structure (doors, windows).

I would think that prep work inside the car (e.x. sound deadening) could change the car's frequency? Therefore you would halfto change the tunning of the box? So overall i would say box is more important than prep...
