Loud is subjective. SPL is a number on a machine. I guess lots of people don't understand this concept.
Tell them "Your ears will pop at 160db. I'll build you a system that goes to 159.

it's sounds like music. yah i'd be able to tell you when you've dialed it in, it would say 145 db on the termlab.
this guy is not familiar with a concept of using one thing for multiple purposes. very simple minded view.

ever heard of PWK deisgns? a couple years back he was the be all and end all of enclosure designs. everyone on the planet was wanted to get a design from him because they would be 'the best'.
anyways to make a long story short, he had a bit of a downfall due to a couple guys who had huge builds, used his designs, and scored horrible numbers and such. he said that numbers didnt mean , and that your ears should be the only 'termlab'

when you order a box from him, doesn't he ask you to specify whether you want it to sound loud or put up high numbers? although I don't really understand how there can be a difference, unless you're using say 79 hz vs 38 hz to test it
plus I saw a vid where he had a 3'' speaker in a box that sounded pretty impressive, definitely stumped the peope listening to it. he was the first person I saw with a loud stereo online. then I found Steve Meade and it was all she wrote. then I met Mat and decided Steve Meade is weak

this is very true. when you fill out a page to request a design, he asks very serious question about where the enclosure will be mounted, how many inches from the front seat is it and such.
to his defence, when people were bashing him about his designs that didnt get loud, he said that he used all the info that was sent to him and did the best he could.
i have heard on of his designs before at SBN 09. it was a 12" DD in a folded horn i believe off a sundown saz 1500. being it was a in cabin car ( i think it was a magnum, cant remember) it wasnt anything out of the ordinary, dug deep and got low, but other than that, if i had not seen the setup before hearing it, i wouldn't have guessed it was anything more than 2krms on a single woofer

It sounds good or bad, which is frequency response and opinion. You can't opinionate a number. People telling him "I want 145 dB", he should see it as their goal, not an impossible out come. He could only ever guess the out come so it's useless to get into it. Maybe he can't get a box to sound good and hit 145 dB lol. His boxes look amazing though, he does "screwless" builds.
Changing the volume doesn't dial anything. If you changed the EQ, gains, and filters etc, I'd be able to tell.
Sound pressure level = loudness, what's this guy saying? There's more pressure in a box, and it's louder in a box than outside of it. A vehicle is like a bandpass, all of the time. I can tell the difference between pressure fluxuations, I just can't put it into a number.
