Free for all?!!

My question is directed to the cars that just look like a mess inside. Wire everywhere, amps just lying on carpet with batteries loosely sitting in the tire well. I understand that SPL is not scored on how neat your wiring is or how secure your amps are, but there has to be a point in which SPL in not increased by poor, unsafe or what ever the word is, install techniques. I know this doesn’t encompass all SPL cars, but there are many that do.

I may be changing my car to compete in both SPL and SQ (very tall order for sure). SQ shows are few and far in between but SPL shows are a dime a dozen. But my trunk still has to have a clean, safe, custom look to it. If "ugly" is required for SPL, I may not fair as well as I once did.

If you judge what it takes to build a SPL vehicle based on what you do at a competition to participate in it, and then are using SQ competition as a bases to judge said SPLing you best check your statement. In SQ the person who built the vehicle doesnt even sit in it or have to turn it on to be judged! Now that takes no skill!!! Simply drive to show and exit vehicle, come back at the end of the show drive it home..... You see what im saying?
What goes on at the shows is just the end result of countless hours of work, it is NOT the work! You seem to have this confused.

Just because that effort is often put in different areas doesn't mean that one is easier than the other.
I just found ALOT less bullshit competing in dbdrag than in SQ. In SPL, the loudest vehicle wins, regardless of how pretty the install is. Back when I was tinkering in SQ, the best sounding cars didn't necessarily come away with a trophy. All too often the best looking install won, and not the best SQ. I never really thought that was right.

I have to agree with that post ^^^ Db does not lie, you hit a number and thats it I used to compete in Sq and it's BS, one judge likes it the next one does not, its to subjective. IASCA finals 1999, one judge says I have PERFECT midbass and Excelent Imaging, next judge says, I have POOR midbass and OK imaging. Bunch of BS. The SPL METER DOES NOT LIE.

wow, I think I have a good record at both...SQ and SPL are very different. I found SPL harder than SQ because there is no manual on what judges are looking for. SQ was easier, because it is what I do for a living. Everything was bolted down, tied up in my SPL rig, it is personal pride. But sometimes you have to "spl the sh#t out of it" to get it down for testing...

Most people at a high level in SPL, have there cars installed decently, its the back yard bo-jangers who stay up all night and throw stuff together that make it ugly. High level spl is pretty in their own way.
