What amp should I go with?

Hi, I'm pretty new to CCA and car audio.

I have 2 12" MTX 7500s. They're 400RMS each single 4 OHM voice coils wired down to 2 OHM in a slot ported box made by bassworx, but it is very close to spec. I'm using a Planet Audio VX900D Amplifier, which puts out at 2 OHM, 600 watts RMS. The output is decent but I know I can produce a lot more than this, if I push some more power to the subs. Just looking for advice on what amplifiers would suit my setup best, also keeping my budget in mind. I'm looking to spend in and around 400$. Obviously I won't really be able to get something brand new, so just suggest something that I would be able to get used for around that price. Thanks in advance for the feedback, Cheers.

I'm looking at a Kicker ZX1000.1 for 300CAD, any thoughts on this?

Sure....it would work like a charm....

Personally I would invest that much money in a new box first.....the one you have might be close enough, but I bet you would hear more of a difference with a better enclosure than you will upping the amplifier power. If you can build it yourself I'm someone here would be happy to give you the info you need to get it right and you could do that for less than a 3rd of what your planning to spend on the amp.....

You need twice the amp power you have now to make a substantial difference in volume, that puts you into a 1,200W amp for more like $5-600 and up and that is getting closer to overpowering the subs......

What you have should be pretty loud already....which begs one of my favourite questions....what else are you running in your car? Maybe you need more mid-bass rather than sub-bass......

Just wondering....

I agree with BigRed, enclosure is everything.

Have you gone any further since posting this?

Yeah, I'm redoing my entire setup now. MTXs are for sale in the classifieds, my amp will be soon as well. Went through a few amps, not really getting the output I want. Have 3 JL W6's. Think I'm going to put 2 of them in a spec box on a 1000/1.

With a proper enclosure, 2 W6's being pushed with 1000rms should be more then loud enough for most.
