Yuli
a lot of times Yuli is quite correct, he just chooses the most direct path of communication (the one through sarcasm, and abrasiveness), in person he is quite a gentleman. Quite frankly his point is 'there is a lot of gas in this thread...'
How loud are you? Go to a competition and put it on the meter. Your quite possibly in the low 140's or high 130's assuming you have done no treatments to the vehicle and have just slapped it in the trunk. There is no reason a single 15" cant get to the high 140's and touch 150 db but it has to be the right car and the right setup for that car. Yes the car is a major part of the equation
Ask your questions to the loud guys at the competition (like Yuli BTW) and they will help you out too. It is a little early to be worried about phasing and port length, but it is time to start considering box sizes and shapes, then ports come into play once you go with a large or small box... I am pretty sure you do not know your hot frequency yet but 40Hz is mighty low.
