What is the "ideal" frequency for burping?

a question that's always been wandering the back of my mind. I guess a better question is what frequancy would maximize ampliflier/subwoofer efficiancy?. does it really matter? I already know that matching a sub to a tuned box(port as well as tuned per car) drastically increases spl, but are the frequencies limited to the car you use? I guess if people can tell me what they burp at and why would be a good start. thanks,

Will

every car is different

u dont match a sub to a box

u match a box to the sub and then tune it to work with the specific vehicle

people burp at anything from 20 to 80 hz

3 reasons,

1. is that termlab (if u are a db drag competitor) is set up not to read anything over 80hz

2. 20 hz is perceived as not audiable, so burping lower would be pointless

3. each car is loudest somewhere between 20 and 80 hz. u'd use an spl meter to find where exactly it is loudest. more than likely it will be loudest at 1 or 2 frequencies (which sometimes is box dependant).

soo it is dependant on the car, and doesn't really matter what frequency? I heard once that burping over 60 hz was better than below 60. I can't remember why, but I thought it had something to do with efficiancy of the amp(s). I also heard somewhere else that lower frequecies were better(40-50 hz), due to a longer curve in the spectrum. This is mainly why I ask, I'm just a bit confused. If one of these were true, then you'd would want to find a car/sub/box, whose optimum frequency would either be higher or lower in order to achieve maximun efficiancy.

is this just a bunch of verbal diarreah being spouted, and I should just stick to the burp/test/tune/move/repeat method?

thanks again,

Will

yes and yes

your loudest frequency is influenced by the vehicle and the box.

there is a wide range of frequencies, you need to find the one that is loudest in YOUR car with YOUR box.

there is math that you can try and do
how far is the box to the test place into the speeded of sound well give you a starting place

Do some research on resonate freq. that will explain why.

I wish I had a meter and wasn't in a residential area

what you can try to do is look for someone that is in similar class as you check sub, box, tune frequency, and start from there.

^^

lol. actually, all i have is my amps and deck, so really I should start with getting a car, subs, wiring, etc.

The reason I was wondering about a car's frequescies, was that I am looking for next years car, so I'm tuning from scratch, just trying to find a couple shortcuts. will be ordering a termlab, so testing will be available to me, also staying in sm 1-2 so not too many competitors around me with the same kinda setup. will just do the testing the traditional way, no big deal.

oh, and no, I'm not getting a crx....

could try a small sealed 10 -12 to test frequencys as then there wouldnt be the large hump in rise at a porteds box?
