This is a mix posting so not sure if it should be in SQ os SPL..... I was quality and good pressure all at the same time lol....


I am trying to figure out the type of speaker I should use in the back of my 93 Honda prelude. I am the type where I like to have a front sound stage and the rear for mainly the mid to low bass, so I am pondering on the type of speaker i should use in the rear of my car to do the rear sound fill..... 3way, 2way or mid-range style? The problem is my rear speakers in my car is only a 6.5" speaker..... Could you experts please help me out? What would be a good speaker to get for the rear of my car that is in the 6.5" size with a shallow mount? I would like the speaker to give good mid base performance, I dont really need it to have the highs in it since thats what my front conponents do..... But if you guy's think I am on the wrong track her for my system setup please tell me and shoot me some ideas, I am willing to try anything to get a good sounding system.....

I will list what my system consists of later today since I am at work right now and dont know the model #'s for my front conponents and rear speakers, all I can say right now is the front components are made by Diamond Audio, rear speakers are some factory OEM Pioneer replacement speakers (that are kinda crappy, my amp even with the gains turned down to zero gives them too much power, they dont mute when I have my deck turned to zero) and my subs are 2 12" Image Dynamics IDQ12D4's.....


In general it seems that my Highs seem to be out powering my mid's.... the lows are decent could be improved but I think they would be fine it I could somehow gain more mid bass to my car..... I am basically trying to get this fixed thats what I am after.....

Your best bet would be to buy an equalizer, say an AC EQL for example. I had the same issue with ALL of my front speakers (I have had very many different brands and models), and an equalizer fixed the problem. I think an eq would be a better investment than another set of speakers for rear-fill. With the EQ you can attenuate the harsh highs and increase the mid-bass of the front speakers with pleasing results. Your Diamond speakers are the M.5 and will produce very nice amounts of midbass.

Ok, sounds decent but AC EQL is that a type of equalizer or a brand?


OH BTW my headunit is a Pioneer DEH-P8MP if that makes any difference

Not unless it has built-in equalization functions that will let you zero in on those frequencies.

The AudioControl EQX is an EQL (equalizer) and a crossover built in. Check one of these out instead if your current crossover abilities are not adequate. The EQX is a bit more money but it gives you equalization of your fronts and subs at the same spot and ensures they crossover at the same crossover point (no guesswork like with some amplifiers that do not identify crossover freqencies on the ***** when variable). The EQX and EQL also give a bit of signal boost, like a line driver, and a subsonic filter.

They can be a bit pricey but are often for sale of the forum. Also, I think some of the site sponsors might be authorized dealers.

I know I sound like an AudionControl dealer but I just lover their products, that's all. I have an EQL and line-driver in the car and an EQX on order for the wife's truck!!

Ideally Id say you should run a crossover(s) bandpass style with midbass only speakers...

if your HU dosen't have x-over controls Id worry about finding speakers and low pass them on your amp for now and worry about the rest later..
